Plate heat exchanger is one of the most basic heat transfer devices whose design allows for good conduction of thermal energy between two fluids to take place efficiently. Working Principle:
1. Fluid Heat Transfer: One fluid enters the plate heat exchanger through the inlet, flows along one channel of a stack of plates. The other fluid flows along the sides of, or over top of these plates. Compressed by the other fluid, in the opposite direction, this setup allows for the transfer of heat from hot fluid to cold fluid without mixing the two liquids together.
2. Increased Heat Transfer Area: The plates are corrugated in design, which enhances the surface area for heat transfer. This increases the strength of the force convection done by the fluid and also adds to the effectiveness of the plate heat exchanger regarding heat transfer efficiency.
3. Heat Conduction: The plates are closely packed to maximize the transfer of heat between the fluids. This arrangement also enables convective heat transfer. Therefore, the overall heat transfer efficiency would be improved in the plate heat exchanger.
4. Reversible Operation: The plate heat exchangers are reversible, and thereby, allow the two fluids to transfer heat without mixing. This process of reversibility will enhance the efficiency and allow a heat transfer process that is efficient.
These seal the plates using gaskets with great efficiency and are easily breakable in case their maintenance or cleaning is required. They are highly efficient and thus commonly used in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and food processing.
Brazed PHEs are permanently sealed and are smaller and more compact in size compared to gasketed exchangers. In applications where high pressure and temperatures are found, Brazed PHEs are applicable. These can be best applied in hydraulic systems or refrigeration circuits.
Welded plate heat exchangers are perfectly applicable when the conditions are high pressure and temperature. Gaskets are replaced by welding the plates together, so it is leakage-proof for different applications like petrochemical processing.

● High Pressure Resistance: Reinforced plate gaskets and the precision-molded corrugated surfaces ensure that the Gelan plate heat exchangers could bear pressures of up to 2.5 MPa.
